Music Icons Who Admitted They Actually Don’t Like Their Biggest Hits

To become a true legend in the world of music, you need at least a few really big hits under your belt, ones that your fans can sing along to for years to come. But it may come as a surprise to learn that the tunes that made some of our favorite singers famous aren’t ones they love themselves. Don’t believe us? The following lists includes some of music’s biggest names, including Elton John, Frank Sinatra, and Lady Gaga, who have admitted to disliking their hit songs. Get ready to have your mind blown!

1. Madonna: “Like A Virgin” and “Material Girl”

The title song from her sophomore album, “Like A Virgin” was Madonna’s first number-one hit in 1984. But as she told the Z100 FM radio station in 2008, “I’m not sure I can sing ‘Like A Virgin’ ever again. I just can't, unless somebody paid me, like, $30 million or something.” She isn’t too hot on “Material Girl,” either, which can be found on the same record. That’s sure to sting a lot of her fans!

2. Elton John: “Crocodile Rock”

Speaking to ABC News, Elton John once admitted, “There are certain songs that you think, ‘Ugh, I gotta sing that one again! ‘Crocodile Rock’ [is one of them]. But the audience love it, and y’know, it’s a guilty pleasure, as they say.” Considering the song went “Gold” — meaning it had sold 500,000 copies — just months after it originally dropped in 1972. That’s some “guilty pleasure,” right?

3. Ariana Grande: “Put Your Hearts Up” and “Touch It”

You’d think that 2011’s “Put Your Hearts Up” would hold a little sentimental value for Ariana Grande as her debut single, right? That’s not the case, though. “[It felt] inauthentic and fake,” she informed Rolling Stone magazine. “I still have nightmares about [the music video], and I made them hide it on my Vevo page.” On top of that, Grande doesn’t like “Touch It,” either, calling it “boring.”

4. Katy Perry: “I Kissed a Girl”

A decade after “I Kissed a Girl” lit up the charts, Katy Perry had some interesting things to say in 2018. The superstar told Glamour magazine, “Bisexuality wasn’t as talked-about back then, or any type of fluidity. If I had to write that song again, I probably would make an edit on it. Lyrically, it has a couple of stereotypes in it. Your mind changes so much in ten years, and you grow so much.”
