Katie Holmes’ career has often been overshadowed by her love life. Her ill-fated marriage to Tom Cruise and the divorce that followed, for example, made her a prime target for the tabloids. So, perhaps unsurprisingly, she’s been slow to reveal the details of her new relationship. And you may just recognize who her new partner is…
But way before Holmes ever met Cruise, she was a star herself, having risen to prominence as Joey Potter in hit teen drama series Dawson’s Creek. Famously, she sent her audition tape to Dawson’s Creek’s producers via FedEx because she was busy performing in a production of Damn Yankees at her school.
And following her success on Dawson’s Creek, Holmes began to catch the attention of Hollywood, taking on supporting roles in a few small-scale films. In 1998, moreover, she even won an MTV Movie Award for her performance in Disturbing Behavior.
Indeed, by the time that Dawson’s Creek finished up in 2003, Holmes had already notched up several silver-screen credits and had even hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live. Then in 2005 she took on her biggest film role to date in Batman Begins – although her performance in the superhero movie received little praise.
And while Holmes’ love life during the early years of her career was a source of gossip, it didn’t really spark controversy. In around 1997 she briefly dated her clean-cut Dawson’s Creek co-star Joshua Jackson; she was also engaged to actor Chris Klein from 2003 until their split in 2005.
